Oh my goodness. Sarah Sutter, Alice Barr and Cheryl Oakes were recently chosen to attend Google Teacher's Academy in NYC November 2008. It was an incredible experience. We will be talking about this a whole lot between now and May 2009, when each of us are committed to complete 3 projects. Well, being the enthusiasts that we are we couldn't wait to get started and ended up with this podcast on our way home. We home it is a teaser to whet your appetite and encourage you to follow our adventures with Google this school year, and beyond. Our messages will be cross posted at all our blogs, we want to share our message in as many different venues as we can.
Here is the first of many posts! Read this post, then look below the photo, there is a link to the mp3 of our discussion on our way home!!!
Kern Kelley is another member of the Maine Connection and he did a terrific job presenting Google Tools at our academy.
Ernie, all three of us will continue to post and we will be sharing all kinds of links. If you have not already signed up, you should join Google Educators and you will begin receiving their newsletter!

I enjoyed listening to your conversation as you drove home from Google. You talked about the importance of PD and student driven actions. That brings to mind a comic by Kevin aka dogtrax that appears in our local paper each week. I think this link brings you to the upcoming post http://tinyurl.com/6err7q It really colors your comment even more.

Oh and thanks too for drawing my attention to the little messages Google provides alerting us to new features. Because I was more aware of this now, I clicked on today's alert and changed my theme. Now I'm at the beach any time. I think this theme is one of the ones that changes throughout the day depending on the time!

Google Teacher's Academy work continues. By 12/18/08, we needed to post our activity timeline. I had to scramble since we lost power for 6 days. But, now I am up to speed and look forward to participating and leading these activities. My peer reviewer is Rita Zeinstejer a fellow webhead I got to meet in person in NYC. Updates on our progress will appear here.
GTA Chicago was a great experience for me. It was a whirlwind day but full of tremendous content. Spending a day with Kern, Lisa, David Jakes, Mark Wagner, and Steve Dembo can only be topped by assembling 50 of the best teachers from the area. My PLN grew tremendously that day. Quite a group Google has assembled via its academies.
Eric, it is tough when no matter what you say, you still get the trouble tickets. That happens here in WOCSD too. We all try to help out, but really the tech people who can take care of the problem quickly need to be the ones. Otherwise, the problem…
When I was hired, my job description was to work in two elementary school buildings; a K - 2 school and a 2 - 4 school (second grade is split in half in my district). My job description was in coaching, lesson development, curriculum design, tech. p…
I got to make my own schedule. So, I only have one office day. It is usually really long, but also important that I am visible in the schools. Then I spend certain days in certain schools. I find the responsive teachers ask me to co-teach, so I capi…
Fantastic and emotionally provocative work! It is hard to encourage teachers to change when, for so long they have been working one way and it has been enough! Change can be stressful but fom this change and stress can come great things. We just hav…
Janice,
We also use an online ticket system for staff to report tech. issues and software install requests. It is REALLY nice to say to a teacher "please put a request in Trakker." I ask them to not stop me in the hall or email me because their req…
Cheryl,
How did you start with your 30% co-teaching and 30% coaching? That sounds great. Some weeks I am having the following percentage which is a little frustrating to me:
40% Office and paperwork
10% meetings (weekly staff meeting, district meeti…
Eric,
Your situation sounds familiar even though I am in an Elementary School. In our district they have become really serious about having us in an instructional position rather than a tech support position. We have a Work Order system online and…
Great conversation! I am part tech integrator and part tech coordinator, so they call me a Collaborative Content Coach for Technology K-12, 3 buildings. Most of the time I support teachers and their projects by helping them embed technology into the…
I am in year three of a newly created tech integrator position. I started out covering both the high school and middle school, but after a year it was determined that this was more than one person could cover efficiently. Now we have a tech integrat…
My job is called Technology Instructional Partner and it is very similar to what Alice does. In this district it has changed from a Campus Technology Coordinator that focused on Technology to a job that focuses on Instruction. In my elementary schoo…

Wow, this is a great topic and thread of conversation. I sometimes would have parents who had not experienced pleasant school situations, but with a calm voice, an agenda and showing off their student's work, most often ended up with positive meetin…
