Hi Phil,

With your work in Technology Integration, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording you might find of interest.

Wow! You have really done alot of prep work! This seems like it is really well thought out. I like how you have thought about the steps that you will walk them through. I also like how you are giving the parents real examples and walking them through some of the digital skills their children need. The one thing I might add is to create a conversation time so that parents can talk about their hopes and fears. From that conversation you may find the cohorts that are right in your community who can help you spread the word and continue to educate parents. Good luck and please blog how it goes!

Hi Phil,

This is a great place to begin the conversations. It is a supportive group and loads of good ideas.

Hi Phil; Great question about digital literacy vs. media literacy. This might be an interesting forum question. I have wondered if media literacy is one of the digital literacy skills our students should have. These skills are relatively new to our classrooms and if we expect a shift in learning we need to make educators and parents aware they exist. Good luck with your presentation!

How would you present to parents on the topic of digital literacy?

Hi everyone,

In a couple of days I am going to be giving my first ever presentation on digital literacy to a group of parents. I have written a blog post on what I plan to discuss with them. Actually I HAD to write a blog post as my ideas were whirling around in my head like crazy. If anyone in this community has a second to give me some feedback on my ideas I would be forever grateful. The post can be found at macoun.edublogs.org.

Many Thanks

Hi, Alice. Like you, I find the gifts feature much too silly and Facebook-like. You can easily remove it by clicking the "remove the gifts feature" link from the Gifts icon on your Manage page. Cheers.
