Terry,
I've long been a fan of Robin Williams' work. She started it all with "The Little Mac Book" way back in the late 80s and has updated the book with each new operating system.
Here's the latest.
Also, this looks very good.
I am wondering if anyone has developed a trouble shooting manual for the Mac that you give to teachers to help them solve their own tech issues in their classroom.
If you have one, would you be willing to share it?
I want to provide something like…
Thanks for your response Cheryl.
In response to your questions.
Do we need specific software? We would still like to be bale to use the iLife suite from Apple. The seemless integration of this suite is wonderful from a user stand point.

Do you need specific software?
Are teachers already trained to use a specific type of laptop?
Do you students already have a specific type of hardware they have used?-not that it makes much difference anymore
Is price a deal breaker?
etc.
Then when…
Yes, Terry a great plan. Our state is 1-1 with ibooks in gr. 7 and 8. Then our students moved to HS and there was a rocky transition. Currently, our 9th and 10th grade students have ibooks for use on carts. There was too much damage at HS, no ownership with the culture at that building. Also, teachers were not integrating the technology into their classes and basically kids were gaming all day. Not that I wouldn't have done the same thing with an outdated curriculum. Now our teachers have macbooks from the State, hopefully a precursor to our students get state macbooks at HS. Teachers are purposeful with their use of the laptop carts so things are much better.
However, we are making a new technology plan, and are looking at the district purchasing some ASUS laptops and offering them to student for a reduced price. The kids said it eloquently the other day, "oh, I get it, I buy the laptop and I will take much better care of it." Bingo. But, we are a district where this would probably work with kids purchasing a 300-400 dollar laptop for their HS years. They already purchase a 130.00 graphing calculator that no one bats an eye at. I am really trying to get out of the laptop business at school and back to the business of integrating and teaching with the tools. We shall see where this leads us. Times are a changing.
Good luck with your endeavor. Alice Barr is in a 1-1 school from grades 7-12. She has macbooks and has great examples of use. Cheryl
Oh, Terry, what kind of laptops are you looking at? Will they take them home, how are you preparing your teachers, this is exciting! Keep the conversation going.
Cheryl
We use First Class as:
• e-mail for all staff and students.
• "Conferences", for example all students are in a conference that they can post to. There are conferences for learning areas and collaboration.
• MY Classes. Each teacher and the students in a class share a folder where the teacher can post assignments, and students have access to them. There is a drop box for student work as well, which only the teacher can open.
• teacher and student web pages. Students can upload content to their web space
• It drives our whole web site. All web pages are actually templates in First Class.
Fresh from GTADC Richard Byrne will join us this week. Richard blogs at Free Technology for Teachers Please join us at 7:30 PM EST at http://edtechtalk.com/live
Hi, Alice. Like you, I find the gifts feature much too silly and Facebook-like. You can easily remove it by clicking the "remove the gifts feature" link from the Gifts icon on your Manage page. Cheers.
Would love to shed a little light on this, Bob, Alice, Sheri and Wes.

I haven't run in to the match ads, so maybe they were short lived. I do wish they would get rid of the gift thing, I looked through the management options, and couldn't figure out how to turn it off. Anyone else know how?
