Usually, we expect the photo to tell a story, a good image is worth 1,000 words.
The set up for the photo. A family party, my 81 year old Mom, my brother and his wife from Virginia unable to make the trip. The computer placed right on the kitchen counter, in the middle of the food, the middle of 28 family mem…

I had the opportunity last week to attend Tufts Dental School Parent Orientation. Interesting, our son is 24 and going to Dental School and we were invited to an orientation. I was interested to see what kinds of technology a Dental School would be using. I often refer to dentists and dental practice of years ago and compare that scenario with educators and schools of years ago and then ask people to think about the changes in those professions. Which profession do you think has changed the most…

We all know that shifting to new location is not an easy task. We also know that it is neither too difficult. It depends upon every individual decision and how the plan has been done to move to new location. If one plans to do the entire tasks of packing and moving on his own, it is well and good, but it has to be done with proper care and dedication. It is well known to every one that packing and moving is not an easy task. It has always created many unfold problems which are not only time taki…

I have been on this computer since early this morning, and I am finding it hard to tear myself away from the learning.
I got really excited by the blog from Cheryl Oakes which showed up in my iGoogle from Tech&Learning and spent a bunch of time following her and Alice Barr's coverage of the tech expo at Sebaticook Valley Middle School. What wonderful projects and such inspiration for other teachers and schools.
Somehow, I ended up back on this NING and then got caught up following a link fro…

I just got an email from
Applebatch about a summer essay contest they are sponsoring. The topic is "If your school were given a million-dollar stimulus package, how would you spend it and why?". You don't have to be an Applebatch member to participate and the prizes are really good. Plus you only have to write a short essay. I'm participating and I have a great essay so good luck beating me :). Below is a link to the details. Good luck.…

It's been a while since I logged into this Seedlings Ning. It was busy at the end of the school year. We got out on June 24, and it's been a technology whirl ever since. What with buying a brand new iPhoneG3s,learning how to use it, tuning in virtually to NECC, and participating in the chats on various EdTechTalk shows as well as speaking on TeachersTeachingTeachers on July 1, I haven't had time to pursue my goal to set up a ning for my school. So, here I am, back on the Seedlins NING, hoping to…

It has been a while since I posted anything here. Not sure why, other than a lot of time end of year stuff and life on Twitter.
My goal is to use this space as my NECC09 diary. I will tweet anytime I add content to this NECC09 Diary Post.

I'm here in Washington, D.C. at the NECC 2009 Conference having come down on the ACTEM Express Bus from Maine. About 50 educators all on a bus with their laptops connected to the internet. What a ride! What a lot of tweets with the hash tags #ACT…

This is our season in North America for graduations from high school and universities. On May 9, 2009 I attended the graduation ceremony at University of Maine where we were able to observe the transparency of how to use assistive technology for the masses.
We were in a huge auditorium, and as most graduations there were many graduates, guest speakers, pomp and circumstance. In the far end of the photo you can see a blue screen near the ceiling with yellow words, this screen streamed the text as…

After spending the past 6 months skiing I wondered what I would do? Well, it didn't take me long to fill up my Saturday. I was invited to travel to MIT, for a day long conference on Learning in a Participatory Culture . You can join their Ning and see what this amazing group is doing. Once there you will find the network to support you as you use these strategies with your students. The whole conference was streamed inElluminate and hopefully will be archived soon for all to view or in my case v…

In the Middle East there is a legend about a spindly little sparrow lying on its back in the middle of the road. A horseman comes by and dismounts, asking the sparrow what on earth he is doing lying there upside down like that.
"I heard the heavens are going to fall today," said the sparrow.
"Oh!" said the horseman. "And I suppose your puny little legs can hold up the heavens!"
"One does what one can," said the sparrow. "One does what one can."

I am super excited to have just completed my first podcast with a grade three class. Ok, I should also mention that the students were super excited as well. I have posted and uploaded it on my classroom blog on my webserver. I have found that this serves as a great platform for children to find the podcast.

I have been reading blogs and on-line educational newsletters such as Tech&Learning and eSchoolNews for years. Occasionally, I have left a comment. It is only recently that I've become an active participant in these on-line collaborative groups. I have finally figured out Twitter, and I'm following some pretty fabulous people. I have also been participating in different open webcasting events at EdTechTalk starting, of course, with Seedlings and branching out to EdTechBrainstorm and WOW. Wha…
